CLARK, NJ – The Johnson
Crusaders (12-6, 6-3) overcame a tough challenge from their conference rivals, the Cranford Cougars (11-7, 3-4) in a tightly
contested 3-2 match up at the Johnson Tennis Courts on Monday afternoon. With the victory, Johnson locks up a third place
finish in the Mountain Valley Conference’s Mountain Division.
Johnson took the first point of the match when sophomore Chris Tylutki won
a 6-2, 6-2 game at first singles. Cranford answered back by taking the next two points, 6-2,
6-2 at second singles and 6-3, 6-4 at third singles.
The action then came down to both doubles points. Johnson’s first doubles
team outlasted the Cougars in three sets for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory. Then, the young second doubles team of freshman Eric
Ginocchio and sophomore Brian Lutz took down the Cougars in a close 7-6 (3), 6-2 match to seal Johnson’s 12th victory
on the season.
The Blue and White will wrap up their 2007 campaign when they host the Governor
Livingston Highlanders at the JTC on Tuesday afternoon. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
