UNION, NJ
– For the ninth consecutive season the Johnson Crusaders boys’ tennis team began the year on the right foot by
winning their opener. The Crusaders defeated the Union Farmers 4-1 in a non-conference showdown at the Biertuempfel Park Courts
in Union, NJ on Wednesday
afternoon.
Johnson was paced with victories by Chris
Tylutki at first singles, Luke Ginocchio at third singles, James Villari and Joe Broccoli at first doubles, and the team of
Eric Ginocchio and Joe Mignoli at second doubles.
“The first one is always the toughest
to get, and the fact that we have been able to win the first one nine straight years doesn’t just happen by accident,”
said head coach Craig D’Amico. “It’s a great accomplishment due in large part to the hard work and preparation
that these guys put in each spring prior to the start of each new season.”
In only their third road season opener
in the last decade, Johnson defeated the Farmers for the second straight season. The Blue and White came away with a 4-1 victory
at the JTC in Clark on May 21, 2007.
Up next, the Crusaders will open up their
home slate at the JTC on Thursday afternoon, as they welcome in the Newark Technology Panthers for a 4:00 p.m. start.
