PLAINFIELD, N.J. – The Johnson Crusaders claimed an eighth place team finish in the 2008 Union County Tennis Tournament, placing in the top half of the county for the second straight season. The squad was led by seventh place finishes from both of their doubles teams, and an eighth place finish from their first singles, Chris Tylutki.

Tylutki dropped two matches on the day, one to Dylan Glendenning of New Providence, 6-0, 6-1, and the second to Emmanuel Jallim of Plainfield, 6-3, 7-5. The first doubles team of James Villari and Joe Broccoli were taken down by Governor Livingston 6-1, 6-4 before upending Union Catholic 6-1, 6-3. Finally, the second doubles team of Eric Ginocchio and Joe Mignoli dropped a close match to Summit 6-3, 6-4, before rebounding against Union Catholic 6-1, 6-4.

Westfield took home the team championship for the fourth straight year, and 28th year overall, by sweeping the titles at all five positions. The Blue Devils first singles player, Kevin Shallcross, claimed the first singles championship by defeating two time defending champion Ryan Krueger of Scotch Plains in straight sets.

The Crusaders will resume their 2008 regular season campaign when they travel to Scotch Plains for a 3:30 p.m. conference date with the Union Catholic Vikings on Tuesday afternoon.
