CLARK, N.J. - For the first time since 2004, Johnson renews their
regular season rivalry with the Scotch Plains Raiders in the next to last match of the 2008 campaign. The Blue and White come in following a 3-2 defeat in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA State Team Tournament to
Shore.
The Crusaders/Raiders series is known for close tennis, as two of the last four meetings
have been decided by a close 3-2 final score. Johnson has won three of the last four, however, the Raiders took the most recent
meeting in 2004.
Johnson recorded their 10th victory of the season 5/6 against Oratory, which marked
the sixth time this decade reaching the double digit victory plateau. This decade has been amongst the winningest in Johnson
Tennis history, leading to seven winning seasons, nine straight state tournament berths, and a pair of Mountain Valley Conference
titles.
Scotch Plains placed third as a team in the 2008 Union County Tournament behind Westfield
and Jonathan Dayton.
